The weeks of anticipation are nearly over.  For most competitors in the 46th Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing, preparations for the event have been in place since their 2011 seasons ended last Fall.  The nine-night racing extravaganza that runs the gamut of short track racing excitement will officially kick off this week, bringing the long Winter’s quietness to an end and a start to the new racing season along with it.

New Smyrna Speedway in Florida will knock the Winter doldrums out of short track fans everywhere this Thursday, when its gates open to competitors from throughout the United States and Canada to kick off the World Series event with a practice day.  The first official racing events will take place on Friday and will kick off the nine-night action marathon that will feature Pro and Super Late Models, Tour-Type and SK Modifieds, Trucks, TBRA Sprint Cars, Florida/IMCA-style Modifieds and more.

The action is intense and sure to thrill the thousands of fans not just locally in Central Florida, but also the ones that travel in from all corners of the country to get their early-season racing fix.  But, for those fans unable to make the trip to New Smyrna this year, or for those who are only attending a few of the nine nights at the track, there is only one place to be a part of the action while you’re away – Speed51.com.

Continuing a tradition and partnership between Speed51.com and New Smyrna Speedway, the nation’s leading and most-respected short track racing news website will once again be the “Official News Site of Smyrna Speedweeks.”  Speed51.com will have exclusive Trackside Now coverage of the entire racing card each night during the World Series, plus radio broadcasts, photo galleries, video features and more exclusive content that 51 is known for throughout the racing industry.

For the second-straight year, all of Speed51.com’s coverage of Smyrna Speedweeks will be presented by JEGS.com, the leader in performance parts for cars and trucks both on the street and on the track.

“Smyrna Speedweeks is annually one of our most anticipated times on Speed51.com,” said Speed51.com Executive Editor Bob Dillner, who will be attending the World Series events nightly after his duties as a NASCAR commentator on SPEED at Daytona International Speedway.  “It’s one of the rare events that truly has something for everyone – whether you’re a fan of Late Models, Modifieds, Sprint Cars or just about anything in between, it’s on track during Smyrna Speedweeks.  That’s why fans love the event and it’s why we love being a part of it.

“We know the folks at JEGS feel the same way too.  Their presentation of our Smyrna Speedweeks coverage is far more than a logo on the site.  They are as passionate about short track asphalt racing as we and the fans at New Smyrna Speedway are.”

Speed51.com’s Trackside Now set the standard of event coverage years ago.  Trackside Now, which will begin on Thursday for practice and continue each night during Smyrna Speedweeks, not only enhances the on-track product for the fans at home who can’t make it to the track, but is also a useful interaction tool for those at the track in the grandstands and the pit area.  51’s Mobile Trackside Now allows fans to follow the action from their smartphones and interact with 51’s staff about the on-track action.

Smyrna Speedweeks Trackside Now, presented by JEGS.com, will be a one-stop shop for practice speeds, qualifying results, lap-by-lap race coverage, exclusive 51 photography and more every night.

Speed 51 Radio, presented by JEGS.com, will present live audio race broadcasts for the final four nights of Smyrna Speedweeks coverage.  The radio portion of 51’s coverage is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, February 22nd with the first marquee event of Smyrna Speedweeks, the John Blewett III Memorial 50-lap event for the Tour-Type Modifieds.  One of the most-anticipated Modified events of the season, the 27th Annual Richie Evans Memorial 100 on Friday, February 24th, will also air live on Speed 51 Radio.  Other featured Speed 51 Radio events during Smyrna Speedweeks will be the 50-lap races for the Super Late Models and Pro Late Models, as well as the 100-lap Super Late Model race that will kick off the 2012 Bright House Challenge Series on the final night of the World Series.

51 Radio will also air a live "Smyrna Speedweeks" kickoff show from New Smyrna Speedway on Friday, February 17th.  Further details will be announced.

Speed51.com’s Smyrna Speedweeks coverage, presented by JEGS.com, kicks off on Thursday, February 16th.  Practice that day will be followed by Night One of the 46th Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing on Friday, February 17th.  Speed51.com will be on site from there until the final checkered flag falls on Smyrna Speedweeks on Saturday, February 25th.
